Maize (second), yams, rice (north) and cassava (south) are currently in growth stage under mixed rainfall conditions. Precipitation in the last 90 days has been above average in the south (Lualaba +12%, Haut-Lomami +20%) and below average in the north (Ituri -14%). Kwilu, contributing to more than 10% of the country cereal production received slightly above average rainfall (+5%). According to
GIEWS, cereal production in the country has been affected by increased violence and population displacements in 2024, with the ongoing conflict in the Kivu region disrupting agricultural activities and limiting farmers' access to inputs and markets. Over 27 million people are estimated to be severely acute food insecure in 2025, with high food prices and limited employment opportunities substantially reducing households' purchasing power, especially in urban areas.
